Welcome
Welcome to the Lewis and Clark Cycling Trek!
We are two stalwart bicycle adventurers heading out this summer to retrace Lewis and Clark on the 200th year anniversary of the Corp of Discovery's remarkable journey! This BLOG is where we chronicle our journey and keep in touch with those who are following our progress. Our Trek is set to commence on June 13, 2005. We are now in the arduous process of gathering and packing our gear.
This is actually the second leg of the Trek. The first leg was accomplished last summer, a 400+ mile tour across Missouri. This took us from St. Louis to Kansas City. We propose to start from Kansas City this summer and follow in the wake of Lewis and Clark. Our hope is to pedal 1200-1500 miles, putting us somewhere in Montana by mid-July.

Snail_blazer: There's a great deal to be said of traveling on two legs (another one of my favorite ways to get around) rather than two wheels...and I can't think of a better place to put them to use than the White Mountains.
Walk softly and stop to smell the mountain wildflowers!

Pardee,
Frank Sapper here. (former Swim Teacher and Coach @ WCHS) Myself along with 3 other teachers from Fort Wayne are traveling the Lewis and Clark Trail.
Last year we went from Council Bluffs to St. Louis. This year we are going from Council Bluffs to Bismark North Dakota.
We are going to try to post our progress here.

Frank and Company,
Good to hear from you! It seems we are of similar thought. We also traveled some 200 miles on the Katy Trail last summer during the month of June. Are you using any particular maps or just winging it. Connectivity...we will be doing the same as you...looking for internet access along the way. Hopefully that will be a successful method for both of us. By the way, Dick Rooker and his family were also on the Katy last summer about 1 day behind us. Indiana folk kept the trail hot last year. Good luck to you and your troup this coming week.

Thinking of you. Hear the West winds for us. Taste the cool mountain air (as you are gasping for breath) hee hee, listen to the birds and drink in the scenary. We will keep you in our prayers.

HI BOYS!!!! We are all hoping your travels continue to go well. We are praying for tail winds for you - although we realize that our weather comes from the West. :)
Although at Washington I continue to tell the kids, "Let's Keep Reading!" ... for your travels we will change that to, "LET'S KEEP PEDDLING!!!" GO HORNETS!
